However, if only one fails to revise the ITR within 15 days, one can seek an extension by writing to the concerned local Assessing Officer.<\/p>\n<h4>How to e-file rectified ITR in response to Defective Return Notice U\/s 139(9)?<\/h4>\n<p>The step by step process (with exact screenshot) to submit the Response against the Defective Return Notice U\/s 139(9) is shown below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 1<\/strong>&#8211; Go to Government Website (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in)&nbsp;and login with your User ID, Password and Date of Birth\/Date of Incorporation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 2<\/strong>&#8211; Now click on \u201c<strong>e-File<\/strong>\u201d from the columns on the top of the dashboard and choose \u201c<strong>e-File in response to notice under section 139(9)<\/strong>\u201d from the dropdown options.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6713 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostbooks.com\/in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Section139-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Income Tax Returns Section 139-1\" width=\"1691\" height=\"534\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 3<\/strong>&#8211; On successful validation, if there is any defective notice raised by either CPC\/AO, the below screen will be displayed-<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 4-<\/strong> Click on <strong>\u201cSubmit\u201d<\/strong> below Response column to submit your response.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6714 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostbooks.com\/in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Section139-2.jpeg\" alt=\"Income Tax Returns Section139-2\" width=\"1527\" height=\"425\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 5<\/strong>&#8211; But if the defective return notice has been raised by the AO, then a different screen will appear after clicking on \u201c<strong>e-File<\/strong>\u201d \u201c<strong>e-File in response to notice u\/s 139(9)<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6715 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostbooks.com\/in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Section139-3.jpeg\" alt=\"Income Tax Returns Section139-3\" width=\"1535\" height=\"319\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step: 6<\/strong>&#8211; At this situation, select the relevant ITR from the drop down uploads the respective XML file click on \u201c<strong>Submit<\/strong>\u201d. Select ITR Form upload respective XML file. OR,<br \/>\nSelect \u201c<strong>No<\/strong>\u201d under column \u201c<strong>Do you agree with defect?<\/strong>\u201d if you don\u2019t agree with the defect.
